About this blog

  • It is not a cookbook, but it is a blog about food. The meals I cook everyday for my family and occasionally for friends.
  • I don't know why is in English and not in Spanish as many wonder. My environment is in English and I feel comfortable with that. I am more than aware of the spelling mistakes you will find when reading my blog. But I don't really care to be honest. It is not a piece of journalism, it is the content what it matters, the flavour, the texture, the smell. The presentation is important in a dish, but only if it tastes good. At least it is how I cook.
  • It will contain recipes, but more than that. Stories about my life as an expat and before I left Spain; about my childhood; as a new immigrant in Australia; as a mother of three and as a wife of a diplomat.
  • Those meals are made at home, and will be based on my favourite recipes collected for years, but also on my own instinct. And sometimes a bit of "this and that". I am not a qualified cook, but I have  many successes and failures in the kitchen during my life. And enthusiasm for what I cook, since I plan the meal in my mind, shopping for the ingredients, cooking it and the most important step: sharing it with the people I love around my kitchen table.
  • Perhaps you will learn how to cook some basic stuff, such as a chicken stock, but I will assure you that you will gain the skill to make things from scratch such as pasta or bread.
  • Healthy meals, using fresh seasonal ingredients if possible, are the key in my cooking. I love mediterranean cuisine for many reasons, not just because of my Spanish background. I cook Asian from time to time, but less often.
  • It is easy but also messy to encourage children to be part of the cooking process. I understand it does not suit everybody, but it is extremely rewarding not only for you but for your child. After 6 years of including my eldest daughter in the kitchen, she is now like a fish in the water. She is happy when bakes a cake with me, including licking the spoon and bowl, but she also learns that we make mistakes when we cook and things are not what as expected, such as a burnt cake.
  • My motto will be yours, the 3P: Perseverance, Patience, Practice.
  • My blog will be open to any suggestion, any recipe you also want to share!
  • Buen provecho!
